Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson is again grabbing the headlines in Sweden, and this time it’s for culinary reasons.
In the past 12 months the Swedish media have reported on Jansson’s ‘Magic Hat’ song, and the player’s computer app, but the focus this time is on a pizza which has been named after the Leeds United defender.
Fotbollskanalen have reported on a Leeds restaurant naming one of it’s pizza’s ‘The Jansson’. In line with his character ‘The Jansson’ has toppings like jalapeños, peppers, and is finished off with a chilli sauce.
Some may say a pizza named after the Leeds United player should have Swedish meatballs or elk salami, but it’s not stopped Fotbollskanalen giving it coverage in the player’s home country.
Journalist Frederic Pavlidis even went as far to say the pizza has confirmed Jansson’s status with the Leeds United fans: “It’s the ultimate proof that he’s become a cult figure.”
Since joining Leeds United last summer, Jansson has become a firm favourite with the Elland Road faithful. His no-nonsense style has made him a cult hero with fans, along with becoming a key player within the team.
The Swedish press lap up any evidence which helps build the ‘cult hero’ status for Jansson at Leeds United, and seem very proud of his standing at the club.
