Zinedine Zidane included Federico Valverde in his plans for this season after Real Madrid failed to fulfil his wish of signing Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.
Surprisingly, Valverde has been one of the standout players for the La Liga side and his impressive displays have drawn attention from elsewhere.
According to Sport, the Red Devils are ‘interested in signing’ the 21-year-old as the Uruguayan has become ‘one of the priorities’ for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Despite Fred’s revival at Old Trafford, the English club are still looking to bring in a ‘total midfielder’, especially when Pogba’s future at the club remains uncertain.
Solskjaer is said to be targeting two to three signings for the starting lineup and Valverde’s name is included in the list. United, however, are aware an operation to sign the midfielder ‘will be almost impossible’.
That’s because Real Madrid have declared Valverde as ‘non-transferable’ and they refer his release clause of €500m.
Sport states the Premier League side will not do any such madness (no surprise here) to sign Valverde by paying his release clause.
Another Spanish outlet ABC also states United are looking at Valverde, but Real Madrid refer to high buyout clause.
This all feels like an offshoot rumour from the Pogba drama, with not a lot to back it up.
