Over the past few weeks, we have covered multiple reports from the Catalan media about Everton’s interest in Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
The centre-back is currently on loan at Schalke, but they will not make his deal permanent due to the Covid-19 crisis impacting the Bundesliga club’s finances.
Sport reports the 20-year-old could be the first player to leave the Camp Nou in the upcoming window and they plan to use the funds when investing on summer signings.
The Frenchman has a market in the Premier League and Sport mention their earlier report which stated the Toffees are best positioned for his signing. The newspaper now states the Merseyside club are in ‘pole position’.
Everton have good relations (because of deals for Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and André Gomes) with Barcelona and this would help them in undertaking Todibo’s signing. It’s claimed Barca would be handling an offer of €25m plus €2m in variables for the defender.
Quique Setién’s side would prefer to sell the player, but they are also open to the idea of including him in a swap deal for either Juventus’ Miralem Pjanić or Inter Milan star Lautaro Martínez.
For now, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are ‘best positioned’ side to take Todibo and it remains to be seen if they can get the deal over the line.
Mundo Deportivo also state Barca are planning to sell the France U20 international for €25m and they have already received calls from Germany, England and Italy.
Everton get a mention and it’s claimed the Premier League side are one of the clubs who are interested in Todibo.
