Rafa Mir’s move from Valencia to Wolves continues to get a lot of attention from the Spanish media, with some controversy surrounding it.
This Monday, the player himself spoke to a local radio saying his former club insisted on blocking his transfer to Real Madrid, as they would have prefered to send him somewhere else than reinforce their rivals.
The quotes have obviously been replicated by several outlets in Spain, who wondered if the Galacticos had really made a bid that was better than the one from Wolves.
But Super Deporte tries to make things clear today, saying that the offers from Madrid couldn’t even be compared to that from Wolves.
They say Valencia director Mateu Alemany got sick of seeing Real Madrid trying to land the youngster practically for free, ignoring the minimum price of €2m that the club had put on him.
Super Deporte claims that ‘several sources’ confirmed Real Madrid’s bid wasn’t bigger than €500k, and in the last conversation, Alemany had to tell Mir that he ‘wouldn’t sell’ him.
But the director had a ‘card up his sleeve’, which was his relationship with Nuno Espírito Santo. He knew the manager was a fan of Mir, and according to the outlet, two calls were needed to get the deal done, after making contact via Jorge Mendes.
The information about the €500k offer is the same as published by Marca this morning, making Super Deporte’s story sound even more reliable.
