Dropping in and out of the team depending on injuries, Dejan Lovren all but lost his place in Jürgen Klopp’s plans this season, suggesting a move away from Anfield might be best for him in the summer.
The centre-back appears to now be behind Virgil Van Dijk (shock), Joel Matip and Joe Gomez in the pecking order, and there are a few teams looking to take advantage of this.
Lazio were mentioned towards the end of May as a potential landing spot, and now two new Serie A sides are reported to have spoken to the Liverpool centre-back’s agents recently: Milan and Napoli.
The news comes from RAI journalist Ciro Venerato, speaking to CalcioNapoli24, who said: “There’s been chats with Lovren’s agents, whom Milan also want. The player’s request is €5m/year. Napoli have put the brakes on.”
Immediately, that suggests the Naples based club have decided they could find better value for money elsewhere.
As for Milan, a lot depends on what the Paolo Maldini/Zvonimir Boban duo now in charge of transfers as San Siro have planned going forward.
Since they have only just been introduced to the public, it wouldn’t be too much of a reach to suggest talks with Dejan Lovren’s agents might have stemmed from Leonardo’s plans, now at Paris Saint-Germain.
We’ll have to wait and see if anything new pops up in the next few weeks to get an answer.
