Every week, Gazzetta dello Sport pick a team made up of the best performers from around Europe, and this week two Leicester City ‘rejects’ make it.
Well, we say ‘rejects’ but that would probably a little harsh on Ron-Robert Zieler. The goalkeeper arrived at the Foxes knowing he had little chance of being number one, and probably played more games than expected.
But in the end he only lasted a year and left to play regular football for VfB Stuttgart. He’s doing that, and put in a Man of the Match performance for the club against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, and Gazzetta have chosen him as the best in his position around Europe.
Putting Andrej Kramaric in the reject section isn’t too harsh, with things just not working out for the Croatian at Leicester City. Even before the striker arrived he seemed to feel he was doing Leicester a favour, with it being repeatedly reported in Croatia he was holding out for Chelsea, a club he felt more suited to his level.
Kramaric struggled to get into the Leicester team and was sent on loan to Hoffenheim, with that then turning into a permanent deal. The 26 year old has established himself firmly at the German club and has 12 goals and 5 assists so far this season.
Three of those goals came against Hannover at the weekend, as Hoffenheim won 3-1.
