With Nicolas Otamendi looking closer to leaving Manchester City, two of his former clubs are reportedly interested in his comeback.
It was first the Portuguese media who said Porto want the defender to join them again, and newspaper A Bola has a story about it today.
They say there have been contacts for the signing, but the club are counting on the help of Jorge Mendes so Otamendi accepts a pay cut to fit with the Dragons’ financial reality.
A Bola says the defender currently makes €6.8m per season at Manchester City, and Porto can’t pay more than €3m. So this isn’t an easy negotiation.
Meanwhile, the Spanish press talks about Valencia’s wish to have him back as well. Outlet Super Deporte writes that the defender sees the return to Mestalla ‘with good eyes’.
They also point out that Otamendi would need to take a pay cut to join the club, so whatever destination he chooses, he probably knows he won’t make the same as at Manchester City.
The Argentine international still has one year left in his contract with the Premier League side, but given the defenders they’ve been signing, it makes it clear that he isn’t very needed at the club.
