This week, the Brazilian media has been full of stories about the race to sign Aston Villa striker Wesley Moraes, who’s expected to break his loan deal with Club Brugge in January.

It was many times claimed that four clubs from the player’s home country are willing to land him next month. Those would be Corinthians, Internacional, Palmeiras and São Paulo.

However, in a couple of updates from Brazil, it’s said that two sides have given up on their chase.

The first is said to be Corinthians. According to Gazeta Esportiva, the club ‘ruled out the possibility’ of signing Wesley in January, although the reason for that isn’t revealed.

Then Palmeiras reportedly left the race as well. The report is brought by Nosso Palestra, a club dedicated website which even featured an interview with the striker complimenting the Verdão this week.

They claim that Wesley’s staff now ‘rule out’ his move to Palmeiras, and say that the 25-year-old’s physical situation ‘was an important point’ for the club not to carry on with their chase.

The striker had a knee injury last year and is still to show his best form since the surgery. That’s probably why, since the injury, he only made one appearance for Aston Villa at the start of the season and six others for Brugge since the loan.

Now as only Internacional and São Paulo are still interested in the player, we wonder if Wesley’s injury issues won’t stop their interest too.
