There’s a surprise target emerging for Galatasaray with claims the Turkish giants are interested in Barnsley forward Sam Winnall.
Güneş Gazetesi report Galatasaray’s scouts have been impressed with Barnsley’s Winnall and the CimBom board will begin official discussions with Barnsley in the coming days.
Galatasaray are still looking for an alternative to their striker Eren Derdiyok and the Turkish club have already cancelled Kolbeinn Sightorsson’s loan deal after the striker failed to make an appearance for the club.
Manager Jan Olde Riekerink has reportedly rejected the chance to sign former QPR striker Eduardo Vargas and has told the club they need a different type of striker. Barnsley’s Sam Winnall is now an option with Galatasaray, along with Everton’s Oumar Niasse.
The Everton forward has been frozen out by Ronald Koeman, and hasn’t played a game for the Merseyside club in this campaign.
Niasse is keen for a return to Turkey, but Everton would prefer to sell him to a Chinese club in order to get the best transfer fee. The Everton outcast has also been linked with fellow Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Winnall’s Barnsley contract expires in 6 months so Galatasaray won’t have to break the bank to sign the attacker. The striker has a prolific record in the EFL, scoring 21 goals in 43 games with Barnsley during their promotion season to the Championship. Winnall has continued his good goalscoring record in the Championship too, scoring 11 goals in the opening 21 games.
