The Catalan media have been reporting for months that Barcelona need to sell several fringe players this summer and quickly.
They’ve been looking to get the theoretically easier sales done first, and want money in before the end of June so it goes on the current year accounts. However, they now have just two weeks left and haven’t made the progress they hoped for.
Andre Gomes’ situation is proving more complicated than will have been anticipated, with the player and Everton hoping to continue working together. However, Mundo Deportivo once again say the ‘best offer’ is from West Ham.
If it were solely the decision of Barcelona then they’d take the money from West Ham and forget about Everton, but Gomes gets a say too. The situation is described as a transfer ‘tug of war’.
Jasper Cillessen is another Barca player to have been linked with the Hammers recently, but those claims have dropped off and they’re not mentioned in today’s report on the player.
Having signed Pablo Fornals, that submitted Gomes offer may not be as firm as it was, yet it seems it’s being used to pressure Everton.
