As you will sorely be aware by now, Jan Vertonghen’s contract is expiring in the next few months (we’d normally say June, but, you know, Covid-19 stuff), which means teams are interested in him.
The past few days have seen some Napoli heavy rumours regarding the Tottenham centre-back, yet each one of them made it clear that Inter were also in the mix, and might even be in the lead.
Rather than focusing on the south of Italy, Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday look at the Milan club, and explain Vertonghen is one of two names being followed by Antonio Conte in order to replace Diego Godín.
The other is Verona’s Marash Kumbulla, but he would cost over €20m, while the Spurs man would be free.
And if that wasn’t enough, Christian Eriksen, who played with the defender at both Ajax and Tottenham is now there too and could lend a helping hand.
That’s two cards Inter can use, compared to the one Napoli have in Dries Mertens, who is also doing his best to lure Vertonghen to Italy, just a bit further south.
