While there has been a lot of talk of Chelsea’s interest in Romelu Lukaku and the offers they have made Inter, there has been little in terms of information regarding the background work the Blues have put in.
Corriere della Sera rectify this, explaining that it’s Thomas Tuchel who made the move and called the Belgian himself to try and seduce him.
They state ‘a first chat’ has taken place between the German manager and the striker, who ‘was impressed by the ideas of the Blues coach, but most of all, what impressed him was the determination with which Chelsea have decided to bet on him’.
In fact, Lukaku ‘is convinced that he can repeat what he has done in the last two seasons with Antonio Conte’, and that he can ‘compete at the highest level both in the Premier League and the Champions League’.
Down his end, the player ‘had a long conversation with Simone Inzaghi’, who is ‘not at all happy with the sale’, where he explained that ‘given the situation, he will take the professional opportunity’ presented to him by Chelsea.
So, Tuchel is to thank for a lot of this it seems, giving Roman Abramovich once again more reasons to fully trust his new favourite manager.
