Prior to Manchester United’s Champions League clash against Galatasaray tonight, Red Devils’ defender Raphael Varane had a chat with the Brazilian media.
The centre-back spoke to TNT Sports, and answered to a few questions about the defensive sector of Erik ten Hag’s side.
With Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez now ruled out for some months, Varane was first asked about the difference of playing alonside Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire instead of the Argentina international.
“We have to adapt. We are playing with players with experience, and we have good communication,” Varane told TNT Sports.
“We try to do our best. It’s a teamwork. We know in football, that injury is part of our job, so we have to adapt and do our best to help the team.”
Varane was then asked about the abuse criticism aimed at Maguire, and explained the squad have been giving him support.
“It’s never something positive, obviously, but we try to stick together, to be united. That’s very important. We do our best to help our teammates. That’s our role, and that’s what we are doing.”
The Frenchman was also asked whether Manchester United’s problems this season are major or if it’s more about details, and he claimed they just need to sort out a couple of things so they can get back on track.
“I think it’s more about details. I think we made some improvements on our games, but the reality in football is in front of the goals, and we have to be more efficient in the two boxes. With a very low number of chances against us, we concede goals, and we need to create a lot to score. That’s the key, and that’s what we are looking for, improvement to get better results.”
Following a loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League opening round, Manchester United now have a crucial home clash against Galatasaray, as that may end up being a direct battle for second place.
