Manchester United have ‘got involved’ with Real Madrid and Barcelona for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka this summer.
That’s according to Sport 1, who provide some clarification on the matter after naming United as suitors earlier this week.
They say ‘there is truth’ in the rumour that Manchester United are looking at the midfielder this summer and ‘have their eyes’ on his situation at Bayern.
According to their information, they have even been in contact with Goretzka’s agent and told him that his client would be the successor to Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.
They are aware that the German’s contract at the Allianz expires next summer and is yet to be extended.
In reply, Goretzka’s agent has made it clear his client is pushing for a long-term extension in Munich and ‘fees right at home’ at the club and in the city.
He is expected to remain a key player under Julian Nagelsmann, but there is no agreement in the contract talks because the two parties are apart on his salary.
Goretzka’s management is demanding a basic salary of €10m a year, and he currently ‘earns far less’ than that, so there is a big gap to be made up.
However, an agreement is considered possible by everyone involved, and further rounds of negotiations are expected to follow soon.
There’s every possibility Manchester United are simply being used to speed things up then. That’s something we’ve seen on numerous occasions in the past, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it was the case again here.
Regarding SportBild, Goretzka and #MUFC, it's very weak to say the least. Feels like an effort for drama, without much conviction.
Simply says: 'Manchester United should have their sights on him as a possible successor to Paul Pogba'

As we said on June 30th, the initial link was weak and tenuous at best and felt more like an attempt to stir up drama than anything else.
This report from Sport 1 seems to back that up, with the word from his agent more that an agreement will be reached with Bayern than any transfer to Old Trafford.
