Franck Kessie is one of the revelations of Serie A so far this season, perhaps the biggest surprise package of Italian football since the new campaign began.
Gazzetta dello Sport have interviewed Kessie about his brilliant start to the season, and they asked him if summer talk of a possible AS Roma transfer had anything in it.
Kessie denied that, but confirmed that Sunderland interest existed: No, Roma, no: I know nothing. In the summer I was close to Sunderland, it’s true. Then I chose Italy, for the tactics.”
The footballer’s reasoning would somewhat contradict what his agent said a few days ago, when it was stated that the transfer to Sunderland was all agreed, and only failed because of work permit difficulties.
George Atangana told Calciomercato: “I can confirm now. It was all done, but the transfer was not possible for a regulation of the Premier League.
“He does not meet the 75% attendance for the national team for a single appearance. He has made four and would need five to be welcomed in the Premier League. Then he went as we all know.”
