Ben Brereton Diaz’s move from Blackburn Rovers to Villarreal hasn’t really worked out as player and club will have hoped. The Spanish side thought they were getting a good free agent signing, who they could make a decent profit on in the future.
Now he’s set for a loan move to Sheffield United, with Wolves’ Goncalo Guedes looking nailed on to replace him.
Thursday’s edition of El Periódico Mediterráneo reports the loan to Sheffield United ‘will be closed this week’. It’s stated the Yorkshire club won’t have a purchase option at the end of the season, so if he does well they’ll have to start fresh negotiations to keep him.
Goncalo Guedes is presented as his replacement, and the Wolves player would also move on a loan basis. That possibility has been reported for over a week in Portugal, where the player is currently on loan at Benfica.
With concern over the minutes he’s been getting there, a switch to Villarreal to work with Marcelino again is seen as a good opportunity for the Portuguese attacker.
