Despite incessant transfer rumours sending Arsenal’s David Ospina to Turkey, Napoli haven’t given up on trying to sign the Colombia international.
With just five days left in the Serie A transfer window, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are running out of time to get their third goalkeeper, having already signed Alex Meret and Orestis Karnezis this summer.
The man they wanted was Guillermo Ochoa, but that hasn’t quite worked out for them, as Standard Liege are making an exit for their star difficult.
That’s why other options are being looked at, including the Arsenal man, who is currently third in line for the job under Unai Emery behind Petr Cech and Bernd Leno.
While he isn’t their top man (that’s Nantes’ Ciprian Tatarusanu), he isn’t far off, and appears to be ahead of other Premier League goalkeepers like Michel Vorm and Simon Mignolet.
Having reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with Besiktas, Arsenal’s recent attempt at increasing the purchase option for Ospina’s loan appears to have put that particular transfer on hold, which is the ideal time for Napoli to pounce if they want to get their man on a similar deal.
