Mauricio Pochettino continues to do that thing where he says things which will both please Real Madrid fans who want him as their manager, but also calm Tottenham supporters who don’t want to see him go.
As soon as Zinedine Zidane announced he would be leaving the Spanish club, Pochettino was presented as favourite by the Spanish media.
That’s continued somewhat, although there’s a growing acceptance that dealing with Tottenham would be almost impossible and Daniel Levy can kill the whole thing dead.
Pochettino has had repeat opportunities to come out and kill the idea of there being any chance but he clearly doesn’t want to be seen as snubbing Real Madrid, with it seeming like he fancies the job at some point in the future.
On Thursday the Spurs boss spoke to Argentine radio station Rivadavia, and he’s been quoted saying things including “Real Madrid is one of the most important clubs in the world, it’s a source of pride that my name has come up… Whatever happens in the future, one has to be prepared for what may come.”
But also “I’m grateful for the position I’m occupying… I’m very happy at Tottenham.”
Again, that should have something to please everyone.
