Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura has spoken to Portuguese newspaper A Bola this week, and although most of the questions in the interview were about manager José Mourinho (we’ve left them out for another story), this article is only for the player talking about himself and the club.

Starting with what Spurs fans want to hear, which is about the possibility of being champions soon, the Brazilian claims to be pretty confident that they can lift trophies.

“We have a structure, squad, great players, a great coach. To crown it all with a title, one simply has to believe and know that we have the same ability as they have. We need to add this winning mindset”, Lucas Moura told A Bola.

Given his big confidence, Lucas was asked a series of questions about how far can he go at Tottenham.

“I have many goals yet, I can contribute a lot. I really want to win a title for Tottenham, and I really believe in that, especially because of our structure, our squad… and now with a coach who has won titles wherever he went. I’ll work hard, I’ll always do my best. Things have worked out, at home, with my family, the opportunities to do more, to play for more minutes, to feel more useful…”

Then he was quizzed if he feels a ‘decisive and differentiated’ player at Spurs.

“I demand from myself, mainly because of my position on the pitch, because I know I always have to do something different, be it a goal, an assist … the numbers are even more important in today’s football. I know my ability, I know what I can do and where can I get. But I won’t consider myself as decisive a player, for example, as Kane. However, I know my importance here. I know that by doing my best, something good will end up happening on the pitch. I trust my quality a lot and always try to improve.”

“As I said before, I trust a lot in my potential, in my quality … but I don’t like to make comparisons with other players. Each player has their own characteristics and their importance. I know that at Tottenham, with the squad we have, I can be very important and useful, besides being very professionally accomplished.”

Lucas Moura has also been asked about the incident involving Heung-min Son and André Gomes, saying he got pretty shocked with what he saw on the pitch.

“It was a very strong moment for everyone, including me. When I saw the play, I initially didn’t think it was so serious, but when I saw… the image was very strong. It was the strongest, saddest image I saw in my career. It is very sad to see a professional colleague go through what André Gomes went through. Son was heartbroken. Anyone who knows Son knows his heart, knows he’s a great person, and that’s exactly what I told him later.

“I told him not to feel bad, because everyone knows the fantastic person he is. It was a work accident, things that unfortunately happen in football. I hope André recovers fast and can come back very well.”
