Not a week goes by in the Italian press these days without Tottenham being mentioned in some shape or form alongside Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen.

The young Dane has attracted a huge amount of attention this season from clubs both in Italy and around Europe, as Spurs have joined the likes of Juventus and Manchester United in making it clear they are interested in his services.

A meeting between Tottenham and Sampdoria chiefs allegedly took place this month, which suggests Mauricio Pochettino and co. are targeting the 22-year-old for the near future.

Our best guess, and we’ve said this throughout, is that he is earmarked as Toby Alderweireld’s replacement, but before making a bid, they want to make sure he’s the right man for the job.

That’s why, to no one’s surprise, TuttoMercatoWeb report that a Tottenham scout was present during Genoa vs Sampdoria at the weekend in a game that ended 1-1.

Unfortunately for both the representative and Andersen himself, the centre-back was partly at fault for the opposition goal, misjudging the flight of a long ball, which forced Emil Audero to rush out and take out Piatek in the box, and the Poland international converted the ensuing penalty.

The website also report Sampdoria chiefs did indeed travel to London during the international break, confirming the previous information from Il Secolo XIX.

It’s not been the best few weeks for the defender as Sampdoria haven’t won in five in the league, losing three of those games 3-2 and 4-1 twice.

Still, it seems Spurs and co. remain big fans of Andersen.
