Joining Tottenham at the age of 10, Japhet Tanganga could end up playing football abroad for the first time if the latest news from Italy is to be believed.

It comes from Tutto Atalanta, who have an article on the 24-year-old and how he has become a target for the Bergamo side in Serie A.

He is the ‘latest name that is arousing interest’ in Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, as he is a ‘multifaceted’ talent (read versatile), who can play either at centre-back or on the right hand side of the defence.

The Tottenham youth product could therefore be a ‘valuable chess piece’ for any manager, and become an ‘important pawn’ in any defensive set-up they might have in mind.

What works in Atalanta’s favour is the lack of minutes Tanganga has been used to at Spurs, as he only made four appearances in the Premier League all of last season.

Despite his limited time on the pitch, the former England U21 international has ‘shown skill’ and his ‘talent cannot be ignored’.

Therefore, his mix of ‘physical power, starting technique and defensive skill’ make him an ‘attractive profile’ for a lot of clubs out there.

That’s why Atalanta are monitoring the Tottenham defender ‘very carefully’.
