According to RTL in Belgium, Tottenham’s 16-year-old goalkeeper Jonathan De Bie is currently in intensive care after suffering an injury to his spleen on Wednesday.
The youngster, who signed for Spurs in the summer from KSV Mechelen, was representing Belgium’s U17s on Wednesday against France when he got his in the side by a player’s knee when coming for a ball in the air.
The Belgian media outlet explain De Bie’s family told them the goalkeeper finished the game despite feeling a strong pain in his side, before ‘fainting’ once the game ended.
Quickly taken to A&E, doctors discovered an internal haemorrhage in his spleen.
RTL say the player is currently in a stable condition, with the medical team monitoring him closely and currently refusing to exclude a stronger procedure.
De Bie is expected to stay in hospital until at least Sunday when a new evaluation will to take place, according to the player’s family.
He has represented Tottenham in the Youth League this year, keeping a clean sheet against CSKA Moscow.
