Tottenham do not want to pay €12m to sign Timo Werner permanently in the summer and he will be heading back to RB Leipzig.
That’s according to BILD, who report that the German striker is not in Tottenham’s plans moving forwards and could end up in the USA.
They explain that Tottenham don’t want to exercise their purchase clause on Werner, valued at €12m, as he’s managed just one goal in 26 games this season.
The forward is not a part of their plans after a miserable season that’s seen a low goal return, him being left out of the Europa League squad and public criticism from Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian coach has ‘apparently finished with him’ and that means Tottenham do not want to exercise the agreed purchase option of €12m in the summer. Werner will instead return to Leipzig.
However, they have no use for him either and that could lead to the German fleeing his homeland to head to America with Red Bull sister club New York Red Bulls.
He’d meet former teammate Emil Forsberg at the club and, according to BILD’s information, both Werner and his wife Paula can imagine moving to the USA. They are big fans of the country and have spent several holidays in North America.
There’s a deal there to be done then, with Tottenham making their stance clear early on to avoid any confusion in the summer.
