Juan Foyth to Tottenham has been a mini saga, if not a drama.
Over the past week the Estudiantes defender has been the subject of many Tottenham links, which have always started in Argentina and then been followed and stretched by the English media.
The story went the expected way. Tottenham keen on young talent, current club’s eyes light up at prospect of good fee, Spurs then present a fee which sees a much smaller amount paid upfront, so club looks for other offers.
Tuesday evening saw claims from Argentina that PSG have moved in and agreed a deal with Estudiantes. As well as being covered on Argentine websites and on social media by journalists, it’s been picked up by Ole newspaper.
They claim Tottenham ‘will not go down’ without a fight and are still in the battle for Foyth. The Spurs offer is put at $10.5m, whereas the PSG one is $11m, and the latter is ‘clean’ meaning Estudiantes would get all of that money guaranteed.
Real Madrid are also credited with an interest, but the Spanish club haven’t taken that further, and Ole believe it’s now down to Tottenham and PSG, with Zenit and AS Roma said to be out of the race.
The PSG link is being covered in France, but as yet there’s no direct claim from the French media of an agreed deal, meaning Tottenham still have a chance to secure Foyth for Mauricio Pochettino.
