In recent days Milliyet have claimed Turkish champions Besiktas are interested in Manchester City defender Elaquim Mangala. Besiktas recently sold Marcelo to Lyon for €8.5m, and they want to use part of this money to loan Mangala from the Premier League side.
Besiktas’ head of transfers Umut Guner has also confirmed to Hurriyet their wish to sign the Manchester City player: “Yes we are interested in central defenders to replace Marcelo and we have been investigating names. Mangala is one of them, we are interested but our fans have to wait a little longer. We have showed from previous seasons that we’ll make the right signing for the club, don’t worry about that.”
After his loan spell at Valencia, Mangala is determined to prove himself to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, but the Spaniard doesn’t seem interested in working with the Frenchman. It’s likely the player will be sent out on loan again, following his spell in Spain last season.
Mangala has also been linked with a move to Fenerbahçe, should they sell Simon Kjaer, but for now it seems Besiktas are in pole position to sign the central defender.
The 26 year old played 33 games for Valencia last season, scoring one goal.
