The rumours linking Alex Grimaldo to Tottenham Hotspur have reached a stage where the claims are coming from all angles.
This Tuesday, website Notícias ao Minuto has a story saying Spurs are ‘threatening to overcome Napoli’ in the competition for the left-back.
They claim the due to the lack of an agreement between Benfica and Napoli, the London side would be ready to offer €30m for Grimaldo.
Tottenham would be doing it due to a request from Mauricio Pochettino, who’s said to be a big fan of the player. Therefore, the Spaniard would arrive to the club as a ‘gift’ to the manager.
The problem is that it’s hard to know if this is an original story from Notícias ao Minuto. Even though they don’t credit it anywhere else, it’s similar information which is being pushed around Europe non-stop.
From the many Portuguese newspapers we’ve read this morning, none of them had an exclusive on the situation, so apparently that’s all we’re getting from this saga today.
It’s worth noting that on Sunday Portuguese newspaper Record had a big story claiming Tottenham could ‘advance at any moment’ to sign Grimaldo and already had the transfer fee ‘reserved’, so there’s some recent background.
