After spending the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal, Tottenham Hotspur let Giovani Lo Celso return to the La Liga side on a temporary deal in the summer window.

The Argentina international’s involvement in the 2022 World Cup is in danger after he picked up an injury while in action for Villarreal last weekend.

Earlier reports stated that ‘Thursday is key’ for the Tottenham owned player to find out whether he can represent his country in the FIFA tournament.

TyC Sports now explains the midfielder’s injury, which initially seemed like a tear in biceps femoris of the right leg, has ended up being ‘more serious in the muscle insertion area’.

A group of medical specialists decided to repeat tests on Lo Celso, in order to ‘elucidate a precise diagnosis’. He has a ‘muscle detachment’ and could end up going under the knife.

Tottenham ‘want’ the South American to undergo surgery. However, Lo Celso doesn’t want to go through it because going to the operating room means he ‘loses the-already-low percentage’ of making it to Qatar with La Albiceleste.

Lo Celso intends to carry on with the rehabilitation. It’s claimed he is ‘clinging’ to it and hoping that he can play for his national team.

However, Lionel Scaloni and Argentina medical staff are aware it will be very difficult for the Spurs man to represent his country in the FIFA tournament.
