Bild report that Tottenham Hotspur tried ‘until the end’ to convince Hansi Flick to snub the German national team job and instead move to London and take over at Spurs.
With it known he’s been leaving Bayern Munich for some months, Flick taking over Germany after Euro 2020 has been seen as certain for a while.
Last week saw links to Barcelona, which felt half halfhearted, and the same could be said for these Tottenham claims, regardless of what Bild say.
The German newspaper also cover Barcelona interest, and add that Real Madrid were interested, in what feels very much like an attempt to hype up Flick’s commitment to the national side.
On Tuesday morning, the DFB made his appointment official, not long after he was pictured at their headquarters. That seems to be what has prompted these retrospect claims about strong Tottenham efforts ‘until the last moment’.
Flick will now go on vacation, and be able to watch Euro 2020 knowing he’ll be taking the Germany team on from there.
