On Tuesday we covered a claim from Italy that Tottenham have submitted a €55m offer for Matthijs de Ligt. The reason for Italian interest is Juventus being keen, and such an offer from Spurs would push the Turin club aside in the race for the defender.
Italy had played the Netherlands the night before, and it had been a hotbed for this rumour, which is probably where it all came from.
De Telegraaf cover the situation in their Wednesday edition, and report that after the international friendly, between two countries who really should be at the World Cup, De Ligt was pounced upon by Italian journalists in the mixed zone.
The surprised Ajax player muttered a few words about being flattered with all the interest, and De Telegraaf say he’s now using his holiday to decide what the future holds: ‘De Ligt will use his holiday on Santorini in the coming weeks to see what he wants’
Interest from Tottenham is mentioned by the Dutch newspaper, along with Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Juventus and PSG.
There’s no claim in the Netherlands regarding the reported Tottenham Hotspur offer, which would be a reason for some doubt.
Spurs have a good record of signing players from Ajax, and those relationships built up would be an advantage in any attempt for De Ligt.
