Tottenham remain interested in VfB Stuttgart Sasa Kalajdzic this summer, after being keen on him last year as well.
That’s according to Kicker, who say the German side will ‘most likely’ lose the striker this year as ‘the signs for Kalajdzic are goodbye’.
The Austrian striker has been a big hit at the German club since arriving from Admira Wacker in July 2019, with 19 goals and eight assists in 48 games for the club so far.
He’s been likened to Erling Haaland on more than one occasion, and there have been the predictable links to the Premier League as a result.
Tottenham have long been established as admirers, and Kicker insist they remain so heading towards the summer transfer window.
They say a departure for Kalajdzic is ‘apparently imminent’, and the chances of him wearing the Stuttgart shirt beyond the summer are ‘diminishing from week to week’.
Everything pointed to a move away last summer, but a shoulder injury before the end of the transfer window put a stop to ‘all attempts to poach him’.
Interest in the striker ‘has not waned’, though. Clubs from England are ‘tempted’ to make a move, and Tottenham are one of them.
They could get the 24-year-old at a bargain price, too, with it explained that his €20m asking price is ‘likely to drop by quite a bit’ as his contract expires in 2023, meaning he’ll be in the final year of his deal by this summer.
So far, Kalajdzic has refused to commit himself further to Stuttgart, primarily because they cannot offer him the ‘necessary perspective’ on the pitch or in his bank account.
Thus Stuttgart could be forced into selling him to avoid a free transfer next year, although the absence of a release clause means they do at least have the option of negotiating a fee.
