For the 15643rd time this transfer window (numbers may be exaggerated), Stéphane Martin, Bordeaux’s president, has reiterated that Malcom isn’t going anywhere in January.
First heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, only to then be sent to Tottenham following reports of a “€50m” bid from Mauricio Pochettino’s side for the Brazilian, the 20-year-old will be remaining in the south-west of France for now.
However, speaking to the press on Monday, Martin also revealed Malcom made a special request, one that is very likely to be granted in the summer.
He said, relayed by L’Equipe: “We’ve said it over and over again, he won’t be leaving. He’s said he wants to play in the Premier League one day. That’s normal, what player wouldn’t want to play in England? Therefore, there is no Malcom problem.”
While we suggested Gustavo Poyet, who was recently named as Jocelyn Gourvennec’s successor at Bordeaux, could potentially help out his former side, that’s been anything but the case so far.
In fact, the Uruguayan manager made it clear one of the reasons he did accept the job was because he was assured Malcom would not be going anywhere in January.
So much for that.
