Having left Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid in 2013, Gareth Bale returned to Spurs after the two clubs agreed a loan deal last month.
The Wales international struggled with injuries and poor form in the last two seasons with the La Liga winners and he also did not share a great relationship with Zinedine Zidane.
Multiple reports coming out of Spain suggested Los Blancos manager wanted his employer to get rid of the 31-year-old as he didn’t include the attacker in his plans.
There were even suggestions that Bale did not get well with his teammates, which was dismissed by Casemiro a few days ago.
“What one says to the coach is personal. I don’t know what he thought, but then they are decisions that each one makes,” Courtois told Cadena Ser, as quoted by AS.
“I’ve had a good relationship with Gareth and I wish him the best of luck this year, even if he’s not playing for the good team in London [jokes]. Gareth is a great player.”
Courtois joking about Spurs not being a ‘good team in London’ comes from his past association with Tottenham’s rivals, Chelsea.
The keeper joined the Blues in 2011 and left them in 2018 when he signed for Real Madrid.
