Following João Palhinha’s man of the match performance against Belenenses at the weekend, the Portuguese media is today full of stories about the Sporting midfielder.
Several outlets have pieces about the player’s offensive evolution, and with just some days left before the end of the transfer window, they wonder if there’s still a chance he could leave the Lions this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur are the club who have been most linked to the player in the past few months, so it’s no surprise that a move to London is the possibility being pushed again today.
That’s why newspaper Record features a headline which says ‘Palhinha for the English to see’. They first talk about his performances and then highlight the expectation of a potential move.
Record writes that Tottenham are one of the clubs trying to take Palhinha to England before August 31st. Still, it’s said Spurs have €20m to spend and Sporting want twice as much.
Meanwhile, newspaper A Bola features a very similar piece. Speaking of the transfer market, they claim Tottenham continue to be ‘lurking’ for his signing. In their version, it’s said the Lions will ‘never negotiate’ for less than €30m, as they’d like something close to €40m.
Either way, it seems Spurs are still far from being able to convince Sporting to sell Palhinha.
