Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has told the Italian media he was close to returning to Italy. The Argentina international struggled in his first season in England, but was a key player helping the North London side grab a Champions League place during the last campaign.
Speaking to TMW, Lamela was asked whether he missed playing in Serie A, and if claims were true he was set for a move back to Italy when he was struggling in the Premier League.
Lamela said after making his name with AS Roma his heart will always be with the Italian club, and also revealed he was close to a return to Serie A.
“Roma is in my heart, I was close to returning to Italy,” said the Tottenham star.
Despite these headline comments made by TMW, these quotes aren’t actually mentioned in the interview, and it seems they are trying to make a story out of this.
In the actual article, Lamela’s comments are a lot milder.
Throughout the interview Lamlea maintained he was always happy at Tottenham, and despite speculation he would be heading back to Italy, he said his head was always in London.
