Tottenham were one of several sides to have scouts in attendance for Porto’s clash with Sporting Club de Portugal last night.
That’s what A Bola report today, stating that Spurs had ‘spies’ in the stands to watch the big clash in the Taca de Portugal.
They report that the ‘appetising’ clash between the two Portuguese giants, which was settled by a late Toni Martinez goal that handed Porto a 3-1 win on aggregate and a place in the final, had several sides sending scouts to watch it.
Tottenham were one of them, alongside Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton, as well as Atlético Madrid and Montpellier.
Who the sides were there to watch isn’t mentioned, but we’re wiling to Hazard a guess that Tottenham could have been there to watch one of two Sporting players.
The first obvious target would be Joao Palhinha, who they’ve been linked to extensively after failing to sign Bruno Fernandes before his move to Manchester United.
The second would be Matheus Nunes, who has been shining for Sporting this season with a series of impressive performances.
Spurs are known to be one of his admirers, and another trip to watch him in this game would make plenty of sense given the summer rebuild they are apparently planning.
Indeed, we wouldn’t be surprised that if Tottenham are keen on either player, they’re trying to get ahead of the game, having been stung by Luis Diaz’s move to Liverpool in January, a situation we’re sure they’ll be keen to avoid happening again.
