Midfielder Lucas Bergvall had ‘already completed a medical’ at Barcelona and appeared to be on his way there, before a late change of heart and his subsequent move to Tottenham.

That’s according to Fussball.News, who have an exclusive on the player’s move to Tottenham after it was confirmed last week.

They explain that Bergvall was about to move to Barcelona and had everything pretty much wrapped up on that front before manager Xavi’s surprise announcement that he would be departing caused a ‘rethink’.

Bergvall had reportedly already undergone a medical with Barcelona and was in the Catalan city last week for ‘intensive discussions’ with those in charge at Camp Nou.

Fussball.News exclusive information is that he had already completed that medical and paved the way for a move to happen but then Tottenham ‘suddenly intervened’.

Xavi’s surprise announcement after the defeat to Villarreal led to Bergvall thinking about and Tottenham took advantage of that.

They used fellow Swede Dejan Kulusevski to their advantage, and he was able to convince Bergvall, via some private conversations, to join him at Tottenham instead, although the youngster has since said these didn’t play that much of a part in his decision.

He ultimately rejected Barcelona to accept Spurs’ proposal and join them full-time in the summer.
