The endless claims on transfers from The Sun recently are making waves in the European sport media, who probably don’t know how to treat them.
A claim about Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen potentially both going to Real Madrid has been picked up in Spain. Generally, it’s not the media closest to Madrid which is covering the story, given they have a better line to the club, but in Catalonia it’s providing grounds for gossip.
Mundo Deportivo report Real Madrid are planning a big renovation, and suggest the Eriksen story is part of that. It’s even stated that the Madrid claims led Mauricio Pochettino to insist Tottenham are working hard on a renewal, when in fact it was simply someone asking him about it in a press conference.
What Mundo do state is that Eriksen hasn’t been happy with the offers sent to him by Spurs so far. The salary offer is ‘lower than the player’s expectations’.
That in itself isn’t a huge deal, as long as it doesn’t bring talks to a halt. A first offer is always likely to be knocked back, and maybe a second too.
Crucially, there’s nothing in Spain yet which suggests any actual movement from Real Madrid, or even serious planning behind doing so.
