Yuri Berchiche’s old Tottenham Hotspur connections could help him get a transfer to Real Madrid, report Marca on Tuesday.
Real Madrid are currently looking for a left back to fill a hole in the squad, as Fabio Coentrao is expected to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
Naturally, Madrid have several options, and Marca report that Yuri is one of them. Joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2007, Yuri wasn’t able to breakthrough and ended up being released by the Premier League club in 2010.
Yuri then joined Real Union in Spanish football’s third tier, before getting a move to Real Sociedad a couple of years later. Marca believe that Gareth Bale could provide a recommendation for Yuri, given they were both at Tottenham.
The footballers are both 27 years of age so it’s reasonable to conclude that Bale will remember his old Spurs teammate.
There’s probably little need for Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino to regret that Yuri isn’t still around, Madrid would be making a squad addition and Spurs are quite happy with Danny Rose.
