It’s the January transfer window so there’s sure to be crazy claims everywhere, but what may not be expected is claims about managers. Surely they can wait until the quiet days of February.
Well, not for Calciomercato, who claim Tottenham are lining up a proposal for Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Yep, you read that right.
Tottenham, currently managed by the very capable Mauricio Pochettino, are said to be ‘ready to submit’ a ‘tempting proposal’ to Allegri. The reason is that Pochettino could be appointed by Barcelona.
The Tottenham manager himself recently laughed off claims of moving to Barcelona, given his Espanyol past, but then Calciomercato do point out there are other suitors too.
Allegri is apparently deemed by Tottenham to be the ‘most suitable’ replacement for Pochettino, but the potential deal is ‘in its infancy’.
As outlandish claims go, this is right up there. Tottenham are very unlikely to be considering offering anything to any other manager than Pochettino.
Interest from other clubs may arise in the coming seasons, but as it stands, Luis Enrique is Barcelona manager, Pochettino will remain Tottenham manager, and Allegri is very content at Juventus.
Just leave it be.
