On Friday we published an article on the future of Mateo Kovacic and how the midfielder is no longer a priority for Juventus. With the Italian champions confident of signing Emre Can from Liverpool this summer, Kovacic has taken something of a backseat.
Tottenham had been linked in the past, so we suggested interest could remain, and it’s a situation to ponder for Mauricio Pochettino. With Kovacic not having the prominence at Real Madrid that he’d like, and with further big recruitment expected in the summer, an exit during the next window wouldn’t be a great surprise.
AS have reported on the player’s future and they reckon Tottenham interest remains. Along with Inter Milan and AS Roma, Spurs are named as a club keen on the Croatian.
The interest from Roma is seen as strongest, thanks to Italian claims of such, and the Monchi connection is always interesting for the Spanish media.
Monchi left Sevilla last summer after a long time as the club’s director of football, with a string of great signings and sales behind him. Whilst Monchi being keen to sign Kovacic for Roma underlines the midfielder would be a good purchase, it also provides stiff competition.
AS say Real Madrid still think very highly of the 23 year old, but ‘everything will depend on the offers’.
Tottenham were said to have offered €25m previously, if competition is around in the summer it would likely take more than that.
