Throughout the Confederations Cup, Adrien Silva has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
It started off in May as an opinion piece on an English website, and as has happened multiple times this summer, the world ‘should’ was mistranslated in Portugal.
Whereas in English the sentence ‘Tottenham should sign Adrien Silva’ would be an encouragement of the club to do so, and a suggestion, in Portuguese the literal translation makes it sound like something they are expected to do.
Since then the story has snowballed. There’s either been a coincidence that genuine interest has appeared at the same time as the idea, or the whole thing is built on a mistranslation.
A Bola reported over the weekend that, after having a €20m offer rejcted, Tottenham have returned with a €30m package. The €25m plus €5m in bonuses still isn’t thought to be enough.
Despite previously claiming that Sporting want €30m, A Bola now say the Portuguese club are looking for €35m for the midfielder.
A Bola have since spoken to Adrien Silva and published another article which claims: ‘Adrien, however, does not hide his appetite for Tottenham.’
The player, when quizzed about a Premier League move, is quoted as saying: “The best players are there, the English championship is recognised by all as one of the best. Let’s just let things run.”
