On Thursday we covered claims from El Chiringuito that Tottenham have made an approach to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid.
It was stated that Spurs had been told they’d need to pay the player’s release clause to make a deal happen… just the €700m then.
El Chiringuito can be rather excitable, so it’s always worth seeing what comes from elsewhere, and on Friday El Confidencial, usually much more sensible, have their say.
Tottenham interest is backed up, and it’s claimed the Premier League club are preparing an offer for the Spaniard. Given how highly Madrid value the player, it’s stated the offer will ‘surely’ be over €100m.
That sounds very unlikely, this is Spurs and that amount is much bigger than anything they’ve offered for anyone.
They also state an Asensio sale could be considered if Real Madrid are given any further hints Kylian Mbappe may not be entirely happy at PSG. The money from a sale would come in handy in any pursuit.
Hopes are fading of getting any reasonable money for Gareth Bale, so it’s explained Asensio interest is ‘good news’ for Florentino Perez.
Tottenham were also linked back in December, when Marca reported Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the player, but Asensio’s mind was set on continuing in Madrid.
