Following the injuries to Marash Kumbulla and Chris Smelling, Tottenham’s Eric Dier was quickly touted as a target for AS Roma for the January transfer window.

It made a lot of sense, seeing as the England international has a contract expiring in the summer and would be cheap.

However, Corriere dello Sport explain that his situation at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou could be the biggest problem for his chances of a move in the next transfer window.

They point out all the options José Mourinho and Tiago Pinto are looking at, which includes the likes of Jakub Kiwior and Trevoh Chalobah.

However, the Chelsea man’s lack of game time due to injuries is also what is ‘holding back’ the Tottenham player.

The 29-year-old has only made two Premier League appearances to date, totalling 146 minutes of football since the start of the campaign, which is deemed insufficient for him to make an impact straight away in Rome.

Therefore, if he is to stand a chance at getting an exit from Tottenham in the coming weeks, he will have to hope that Postecoglou plays him a bit more before the January window opens.
