It’s that stage of the season when even a relatively mild injury could put someone’s summer football in danger, and given we have both the Euros and the Copa America in 2024 it’s going to be a big deal for a lot of players.

The Italian media are reacting with a mixture of shock and pity after Destiny Udogie announced he won’t be playing for Tottenham Hotspur again this season.

There’s been a lot of pride in Italy over how well Udogie has done since moving to Spurs, and some frustration that it wasn’t a top Serie A club who managed to secure his signature. Nevertheless, his progress would still help the national side.

Gazzetta dello Sport explain that Euro 2024 had been Udogie’s ‘dream’ and that his good season with Tottenham, which is also described as a dream, was set to facilitate his involvement.

That was seen as much deserved, so there’s obviously upset that he’s now ‘almost certainly’ out of the tournament.

On the bright side, he’s still just 21-years-of-age and has plenty of time left to take park in Italy tournaments, and a summer of rest may be beneficial for even further development at Tottenham next season.
