As they have done numerous times in the past, Inter are still on the lookout for some free transfers this summer to bolster their squad.

Two of their three starting centre-backs were acquired when their contracts ran out, as Stefan De Vrij and Diego Godín both swapped Lazio and Atlético Madrid for San Siro for nothing, and they are looking to add another to that since Antonio Conte likes to play three at the back.

Among the ‘right profiles’ for the club is Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen, who has allegedly been offered to the Serie A club.

The Belgian defender’s contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expires in the summer, and while Toby Alderweireld committed the next few years of his career to remain in London, his compatriot has yet to do so.

Corriere dello Sport explain the 32-year-old’s agent has been ‘gathering offers’ and ‘has especially been offering him around top clubs’.

There’s a feeling that should Vertonghen move to Inter, that could lead Godín to be pushed to one side and moved on, as the Uruguayan, despite all his qualities, has struggled to adapt to the three at the back formation Conte is playing.

Something to keep in mind the closer we get to the end of the season.
