Emerson Royal’s father, who also acts as his agent, has dismissed talk of a move away from Tottenham this summer.
The Brazilian fullback joined Spurs in a €25m deal from Barcelona in August last year and went on to make 40 appearances in all competitions last season.
Like many Tottenham players, he enjoyed an uptick in his performances after the arrival of Antonio Conte, under whom he thrived in the Italian’s system, which makes great use of wingbacks.
Tottenham’s move for Djed Spence this summer, though, has raised doubts about Emerson’s future at the club.
He has suitors in Spain, particularly Atletico Madrid, who are believed to be looking for a new fullback this summer.
Several reports have put the Tottenham man on their list of options alongside the likes of Pedro Porro, Pablo Maffeo and Jonathan Clauss.
It seems, though, that the player is not exactly happy with those rumours, at least if his father is to be believed.
“I had an informal conversation with Atletico Madrid, but I am not only the agent of Emerson Royal; I have other players, so I can’t confirm this information released in the press,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“Our intermediary with the press is the Portuguese journalist and neuroscientist Fabiano de Abreu Agrela.
“He is not only responsible for Emerson’s information, but he deals with mental and high-performance issues.
“He even revealed to me that this kind of rumour is not good for the moment, as the player is very happy at Tottenham and is living a good moment in his career, which will improve even more.”
