Tottenham defender Cuti Romero has found himself being dragged into the tension stirring between Argentina and Colombia in the latter’s press.
RCN Noticias cover the player today and how he made a ‘derogatory gesture’ towards Colombian fans in Argentina’s 2-1 defeat this week.
The world champions were beaten in Barranquilla thanks to a James Rodriguez penalty, which settled the score at 2-1 for the home side after Yerson Mosquera’s headers was cancelled out by Nico Gonzalez.
It was another feisty affair between the two sides, who are fierce rivals with an ill-tempered relationship that is constantly on the verge of full-on fighting.
That was again evident in their latest clash, with Emi Martinez facing sanctions after he pushed away a Colombian camera operator who was filming him close up after the game.
Now it’s the turn of Tottenham’s Romero, who reportedly made a ‘derogatory gesture’ towards Colombian fans after the defeat.
According to RCN, the defender made the ‘controversial gesture’ of touching the world champions patch the side earned in Qatar 2022. This they say was ‘unnecessary’ and ‘shameful’.
But what has really annoyed them is the fact that it was shared and seemingly celebrated by Tottenham’s account on X, who shared the video with the caption ‘Simply Cuti’.
That’s really annoyed them and now they want everyone else in Colombia to be equally annoyed by it, and presumably give the Tottenham man the criticism they think he deserves.
