Now that the transfer window across major European leagues has closed, Christian Eriksen’s future will be at Tottenham Hotspur, at least until the end of this calendar year.

The Denmark international wanted to leave Spurs in the summer, but was unable to find a new club. The 27-year-old’s current deal with the Champions League runners-up will expire in 2020 and he’s so far not signed a new deal.

He was one of the star players for his national side as Denmark registered a crushing 6-0 victory over Gibraltar. The former Ajax man got his name on the scoresheet twice.

After the match, BT managed to get hold of the Tottenham star and asked if he plans to be sold in January, to run down his contract, or to renew with Spurs.

Eriksen said: “We still can’t talk about it. I focus on the national team and, as I said, I am a Tottenham player.”

When further quizzed if he is in the process of negotiating a new contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side, BT states Eriksen ‘responded with silence’, again refusing to provide any update on his current situation.
