The Danish media are more than a little obsessed with the idea of Christian Eriksen one day joining Barcelona. The most unreliable of unreliable sources could merely mention the idea in passing and it would be enough for some in the Danish media to get weeks of coverage out of it.
Eriksen is the country’s poster-boy, still, and him moving from Tottenham to Barcelona would be huge. Sure, Spurs are a big club who are getting bigger, but Barca seems to make even experienced Danish journalists go starry-eyed.
It’s understandable, to an extent, and now Eriksen has been dragged into the dream. Asked about his future with Tottenham, rumours of an exit, and a possible Barcelona move, Eriksen is quoted by Ekstra Bladet as saying: “I still have a contract with Tottenham a few more years. There are always rumours about footballers… Barcelona are a great club and I don’t think there are many who say no to Barcelona.”
Eriksen added that he didn’t really want to have an opinion unless there’s ‘concrete interest’, but did underline an ambition to play at the very highest level: “In the future I see myself at the highest level. That’s what I dream about. It can be in about two to three years. It may be at another club or it could be Tottenham if we have come all the way up.”
The 25 year old clearly isn’t ruling out a future Tottenham exit, but he’ll have to help get Spurs to the top if he’s to attract Barcelona.
