Christian Eriksen had a good game for Denmark against Gibraltar last week.
He scored twice, added an assist, and had an 87% pass completion rate in a 6-0 victory.
Next up for the Danish national side was Georgia on Sunday, a tougher match but one they’d still be expected to win. A 0-0 draw has proven something of a disappointment, and as pundits in Denmark look around for someone to blame, it’s the Tottenham star who is in their sights.
Ekstra Bladet say Eriksen was part of the ‘fiasco’ and along with Kasper Dolberg was the worst performer for the away side. Not only that, they say it was the Tottenham player’s ‘worst international in several years’.
He wasn’t himself, had problems finding teammates with killer balls, and, according to a longer newspaper article, was partly the reason the whole team played poorly.
The Danish newspaper points out that when Eriksen doesn’t really turn up ‘Denmark becomes significantly inferior’.
BT, another Danish publication, have gone a little easier on the Spurs man, and have a few words from him explaining the disappointing performance and how he’s being pinpointed: “I don’t feel any greater or worse pressure in such a match. But there is pressure on me because I have the position that I have and I have become the player I am.
“It’s about being important with an assist or goal and being able to decide the matches. It has happened in many other matches, but unfortunately it did not happen this time.
“But there will probably be other chances and they must be exploited, and then we stand and talk about something completely different.”
